Due to my recent... misfortune... I am back in the market for a motorbike, to amuse myself while the insurance clowns bugger about, and maybe to get some idea of what to get if they give me any quantity of monies back.
Here's the criteria:
*Manual
*125cc
*Must cope with bad roads/dirt tracks
*Cheap! £££
*It would be a bonus if it looked cool.
*Fun!
*Reliable
Right from the off, my choices fall into two distinct categories: New Chinese or Used Japanese.
Here are the pros and cons of both, off the top of my head.
New Chinese
Pros
*Cheap!
*Some are very cool.
*Good if you have dealer's warranty etc.
*Reliable if maintained properly.
Cons
*Parts availability
*Insurance difficult
*Quality?
Used Japanese
Pros
*Parts Availability
*Insurable
*Quality
Cons
*Unknown history
*Age/mileage
*Expensive
*No warranty
Right now I have looked at several bikes from each category, from different genres, sports/offroad/commuter etc. and two struck me as being particularly appealing.
In the red corner, weighing in at 118 kilos, the chinky chariot, the Superbyke RMR125!
In the blue, also weighing in at 118 kilos, the old jap, the Yamaha TW125 Trailway!
Ding Ding!
...anyway... I'm leaning towards the superbyke... my local bike garage stocks them, offers finance and has a warranty and reairs offer included in the price.
Trying to get hold of an old Yammy for the money that I have NOW is impossible, I've been trawling through the local bike trader and most of the stuff is either far more expensive or junk. and of course there are no warranties or finance options. and I'd have to go miles out of my way to pick one up.
if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them!
so... we'll see whether I get my money, and then... well?
matt black stealth superbyke anyone?_________________ One very poorly Kinroad - Kimi

RMR for the win, you can use parts from the Pulse Adrenaline if needs be so parts aint a problem and most bike shops are willing to work on these as most don’t even realise its a Chinese bike.
Plus it has a Suzuki licensed engine with 14.5nm or torque which makes it a proper little wheelie machine |

yup.
my local shop is brilliant, but they are a bit pricey...
just under £1700 for a completely road-ready brand new one
however, I suspect that the convenience of having a warranty and a reputable dealer locally is worth quite a bit... no dropshipping for me...
and joe, I did consider one of those hondas, but it is a bit too oriented towards offroad use for me, even if the roads round here are terrible._________________ One very poorly Kinroad - Kimi

| I could do you one much cheaper than that on the road, but like you say having your dealer just down the road is priceless |

it's nice but I assume they're quite pricey in a reasonable condition or new._________________ One very poorly Kinroad - Kimi

| Pick up a nice used example for the same price you'll be paying for the RMR |

Oh god.
dad's been looking for Superbyke RMR125's and he's stumbled upon Marshy's Motorcycles. No amount of arguing will dissuade him. I don't want a crated bike that I need to register and get otr myself, even if it is £600 quid cheaper.
I want a warranty, backup, reliable parts and servicing and a local dealer.
Please God don't let him do this. _________________ One very poorly Kinroad - Kimi
